Earlier i posted this comment;

Don’t be fooled by what is going on here, this is a potentially explosive match being expertly controlled by a man at the top of his game!

Which pretty much sums up what Mark Clattenburg achieved today, You were a credit to our profession, you won’t be the talking point for the media after this performance but all Referees watching will have been impressed. This was a big match performance from a big match Referee, why on earth have the PGMOL not made more use of your services so far this season? He showed experience, presence, awareness, game and tempo management and a technical input that was a masterclass to any Referee at any level. Just the two cautions in what was billed as a Premier League title decider whilst complete control was maintained, what more could anyone have asked for?

Keith Hackett talked about how Graham Poll could orchestrate a big game, well Mark Clattenburg showed those qualities today! However he was supported by a good team, both Assistants looked sharp and confident, Simon Beck did really well not only on the City goal but in his directional decision making. But Jake Colin and Jon Moss played their part. We would all have settled for the outcome, in a season where there has been much criticism of Match Official you showed tonight how it should be done lads, well done!

There’s more Premier League action coming your way on REFCAM, why not join us for tomorrow afternoon’s important games at the Emirates Stadium where points really matter at both ends of the table as Arsenal take on Aston Villa with a 1.30 kick off.  One of Arsenals main rivals for that last Champions league spot Southampton host Swansea later at 4.00, would be great to have you with us for both of these cracking matches!

Time for one last City corner!

RH at 2015-01-31 20:18:56

Its City who are finishing strongly!

RH at 2015-01-31 20:17:41

3 Minutes additional  time!

RH at 2015-01-31 20:16:08

Simon Beck is having a great game, another sound offside call against Drogba

RH at 2015-01-31 20:14:23

well he tried an advantage there but had the sense to bring it back with the free kick to City

RH at 2015-01-31 20:13:15

Don’t be fooled by what is going on here, this is a potentially explosive match being expertly controlled by a man at the top of his game!

RH at 2015-01-31 20:09:14

A lot of comment on twitter about the Referee at Bramhall Lane today, take a look at this game if you want to see how it should be done!

RH at 2015-01-31 20:07:39

The technical side of Mark Clattenburgs game has remained unchanged, allowing play to develop around him and then either jogging or explosively sprinting or making small positional adjustments in midfield, it all adds up to a close proximity to play with sound viewing angles from an ideal range! the result? good decision making accuracy!

RH at 2015-01-31 20:03:35

Enter Frank Lampard to a hero’s welcome!

RH at 2015-01-31 20:02:41

Great decision by Simon Beck awarding that throw to City!

RH at 2015-01-31 20:01:56

Yellow CardFernando rightly cautioned for that Reckless challenge on Hazard

RH at 2015-01-31 19:59:47

The Referee has the confidence to manage  Jose Mourinho one on one at the half way line without drawing unnecessary attention on himself, superb!

RH at 2015-01-31 19:57:15

Three quarters of the game gone and we’re watching a Referee expertly control this game by;

  • Showing strong Recognition of offences
  • Time management – slowing it down taking the ‘heat out of it’
  • Respect
  • Keeping it tight – then letting some slack out

RH at 2015-01-31 19:54:21

The Referee slowing things down following that Remy challenge, stopping the quick free kick, conducting the game!

RH at 2015-01-31 19:53:08

No doubt City are on top at the moment, I wonder how this will affect the attitude of the Chelsea players and their discipline, especially if City score!

RH at 2015-01-31 19:51:28

Mark Clattenburg using John Terry to help him maintain his tight grip on this game, great game management!

RH at 2015-01-31 19:50:07

Ramires is carelessly pushed, no caution but a useful free kick for Chelsea

RH at 2015-01-31 19:48:20

So here we are on the hour mark with the Referee in full control of such an important goal, and just the one caution, quality!

RH at 2015-01-31 19:47:20

A caution for Matic must have gone through the Referees mind following that borderline challenge on Silva

RH at 2015-01-31 19:45:42

Jake  Collin with a really tight offside call against James Milner,

RH at 2015-01-31 19:44:37

Ramires concedes a free kick in a dangerous area

RH at 2015-01-31 19:42:55

Jon Moss did well a few minutes back to keep the peace between the two set of team Officials, Manuel Pellegrini probably the unhappier of the two!

RH at 2015-01-31 19:39:44

Yellow CardFirst caution to David Silva following that tactical foul which broke up a Chelsea attack

RH at 2015-01-31 19:38:32

The recognition of offences has been really good today, players have collide, players have gone to ground, free kicks not always given,

RH at 2015-01-31 19:36:27

Silva careless on Hazard, and as usual the Referee is only yards away to award the free kick and close in

RH at 2015-01-31 19:34:46

Simon Beck waking up the locals with the signalling of a throw to City!

RH at 2015-01-31 19:33:52

Milner goes to ground but the Referee is not buying it!

RH at 2015-01-31 19:32:25

The second half has started!

RH at 2015-01-31 19:24:52

A great first half for the Referee and his team, so much quality on view from many aspects not least experience, presence and technical input, Mark Clattenburg is demonstrating a superb positional awareness in this game, he is never far from the action and is always on hand to defuse matters, the Hazard trip being a good example, he shows much experience in slowing the game down when he needs to and shows much presence. Its no surprise that he is  has earned the respect from the players. This game is not as easy to Referee as it appears, its just that our best Referee is making it look that way! great support also from his two Assistants, they both look sharp and confident, Another half like that please lads!

RH at 2015-01-31 19:17:44

Half Time

RH at 2015-01-31 19:17:20

There was a shout for offside at that City goal but Simon Beck was spot on with a Chelsea defender on the far side of the penalty area playing city on-side, great call!

RH at 2015-01-31 19:15:44

GOAL!

David Silva makes it 1-1

RH at 2015-01-31 19:14:32

Simon Beck showing good concentration to signal ball out of play

RH at 2015-01-31 19:13:25

A very important five plus minutes here for the Match Officials , we’ve had a superb first half so far, crucial that no mistakes are made, we don’t want the half remembered for any silly

RH at 2015-01-31 19:11:32

GOAL!Remy scores 1-0 Chelsea!

RH at 2015-01-31 19:09:51

Sagna and Hazard colliding there with no intent on either part, sensibly no free kick is awarded

RH at 2015-01-31 19:08:37

Another free kick to City, the Referee is only yards away to offer a calming presence

RH at 2015-01-31 19:07:07

The Referee slowing things down at that last city free kick, just taking the heat out and keeping tight control, spot on!

RH at 2015-01-31 19:05:09

Jake Collin looking confident in his exchange with Oscar, who wanted a phantom corner!

RH at 2015-01-31 19:02:57

That ‘ball to hand’ by Demichelis being a good example, great call!

RH at 2015-01-31 19:01:52

Noticeable in this first half hour that the Referee has achieved credible viewing angles and range in both penalty area’s

RH at 2015-01-31 19:00:23

A wrestling match between between Azilicueta and  Aguero seeing both players go to ground, it could have gone either way, experiences much in evidence as the free-kick went Chelsea’s way, sensible Refereeing

RH at 2015-01-31 18:55:48

The Referee showing great presence to defuse matters following that trip on Hazard

RH at 2015-01-31 18:53:18

Kompany rightly penalised for that careless challenge

RH at 2015-01-31 18:51:40

Its worth mentioning that last City corner and the sound challenge by Zouma, Mark Clattenburg delivering impact as he closed in to award the corner, if the challenge was poor he was well placed to judge

RH at 2015-01-31 18:49:47

Great awareness to bring play back and award Chelsea that free kick

RH at 2015-01-31 18:48:22

great explosive sprint by Clattenburg to track that attack by Eden Hazzard

RH at 2015-01-31 18:44:41

Good to see the absence of grappling at the opening corners at both ends!

RH at 2015-01-31 18:43:45

Chelsea’s first corner!

RH at 2015-01-31 18:43:19

The tempo has lowered slightly, important at the moment not to ‘over Referee’ the game, maintain a sensible profile, there will be plenty of time to raise his game later!

RH at 2015-01-31 18:39:10

The Referee showing his positional awareness by allowing the game to develop before moving in behind play

RH at 2015-01-31 18:37:45

First corner to City!

RH at 2015-01-31 18:36:20

This match will be Refereed in stages, these early exchanges are setting the allowable contact between players at this point in the game

RH at 2015-01-31 18:34:25

A high tempo start, what else could we have expected!

RH at 2015-01-31 18:33:46

Mark Clattenburg’s  appointment already drawing comment , Morten tweets

when they finally decide to use him, they put him in the biggest game of the season. What is going on at PGMOL?
