Chelsea will be very happy with the 3 points and will go marching on where as Arsenal buckled under the pressure against one of their rivals and were nowhere near strong enough. This was an excellent game to watch and Martin Atkinson must take the plaudits for the way he refereed this game, it's as though he read my prematch comments about the referee tactics for this match, the way he managed the players, the game/event was excellent. Although there was no key match incidents to be made, his accuracy in his decision making was first class. He wasn't fussy he stamped his authority on the game when needed and his fitness was exceptional. Allowing him to get into positions to give him the optimal viewing angle. A game of such high importance, only 2 cautions in the game just shows you how well Martin refereed this game. Control was never in doubt he was well assisted by his assistants. Excellent team performance all round.

MH at 2017-02-04 15:20:43
A12 to little to late and Arsenal will rue their missed chances.

Substitution for Chelsea, C5 ON, C15 OFF,
MH at 2017-02-04 15:16:40
Mistake by the Arsenal keeper leading to the third goal for Chelsea's Fabregas, it was good to see the respect he showed for his former club in not celebrating his goal.

It's pleasing to see Martin not invading the players space, squeezing play when he needs to and moving out giving himself the optimal viewing angle.
MH at 2017-02-04 15:09:28
79 minutes gone and Martin is still showing some dynamic sprinting in his game.
MH at 2017-02-04 15:07:51
Another good save by the Chelsea keeper.
MH at 2017-02-04 15:07:06
In real time it looked like a routine free kick.
MH at 2017-02-04 15:04:34
A5 can count himself lucky not to be cautioned for reckless use of the arm on C10.
MH at 2017-02-04 15:01:41
C21. Well done Martin a clear caution for C21 after a clear foul on A23. It shows that Martin is still fully focused on job in hand.

That has to be a yellow card!!!!

Good to see Martin managing Costa and letting him know that next time he fouls he will be cautioned and it's good to see Costa accepting that with a smile.
MH at 2017-02-04 14:52:05
Good to see Martin stopping the game quickly for a head injury to C3 after a clash with his own player C30.
MH at 2017-02-04 14:49:17
Let's not forget Martin, Martins role in this goal while C10's goal was excellent so was Martins advantage leading up to it. First class refereeing.
MH at 2017-02-04 14:44:01

Another foul by C15 he must be carefully that he doesn't become a persistent offender.
MH at 2017-02-04 14:38:00
Not only do the team managers have a talk at half time Martin being the manager of his team will be doing exactly the same, telling his team that we must remain fully focused and our concentration levels must not dip.
MH at 2017-02-04 14:34:21
Arsenal to get the second half underway.
MH at 2017-02-04 14:20:40
An excellent first half by Martin Atkinson and his team.

MH at 2017-02-04 14:10:21
Martins positioning, movement, reading of the game and anticipation of play is excellent and that comes with his exceptional fitness, the fitter you are the mentally aware you are and with all this comes your accuracy in your decision making which we are seeing at present.
MH at 2017-02-04 14:08:10
Excellent save by the Chelsea keeper.
MH at 2017-02-04 14:04:57
Good free kick given to Arsenal.
MH at 2017-02-04 14:02:42
Free kick correctly given to Arsenal. Pleasing to see Martin engaging with the players that's what we want. That's what players like, referees that talk to them and explain things.
MH at 2017-02-04 14:00:48
Correct foul given against C15 for blocking off A 18.
MH at 2017-02-04 13:59:55
It's also excellent to see Martin not static he is always on the move he is always looking around. His awareness of what is going on around him is first class.
MH at 2017-02-04 13:58:12
Correct free kick given to Arsenal.
MH at 2017-02-04 13:57:38
Martin is adding to the excitement of this game, he is not being fussy and he is allowing physical contact. Thus the players showing him respect.
MH at 2017-02-04 13:56:02
I did say in my prematch notes that you will get that chance to stamp your authority on the game and Martin has had that chance and done it by cautioning A20. Well done Martin.
MH at 2017-02-04 13:54:43
A20. As I said a clear caution for a reckless challenge.
MH at 2017-02-04 13:53:42
That has to be A yellow card!!!!
MH at 2017-02-04 13:51:57
There is some suggestion that there may have been a free kick for Chelsea's goal when C3 challenged A24 for me the Chelsea player had his eye on the ball and used his arms for elevation and it's a perfect goal
MH at 2017-02-04 13:49:41
Substitution for Arsenal. A5 ON, A24 OFF.
MH at 2017-02-04 13:47:32
Martin fully focused as he has made A24 leave the field of play after receiving treatment.
MH at 2017-02-04 13:45:10
Pleasing to see Marco Alonso doing well for Chelsea as I spent some time with him while training at Bolton.
MH at 2017-02-04 13:43:26
MH at 2017-02-04 13:42:41
In my opinion correct not to caution the Arsenal player as it was a careless challenge and not stopping a promising attack as the incident occurred on the touch line with defending players around.
MH at 2017-02-04 13:40:51
First free kick of the game, foul by A34 on C15 correctly given.
MH at 2017-02-04 13:39:27
Martin looking very comfortable and confident.
MH at 2017-02-04 13:38:31
Correct offside given by Stuart Burt.
MH at 2017-02-04 13:35:36
A24 telling Martin that he had been elbowed, Martin having non of it. Letting the player know he is in charge.
MH at 2017-02-04 13:34:31
Martin showing excellent sprinting ability after a quick break by Chelsea. As he is sprinting up the field you can see him making an angle to obtain a perfect view and not running directly behind the players.
MH at 2017-02-04 13:32:32
First corner of the game to Arsenal.
MH at 2017-02-04 13:31:50
Adam Nunne has replaced Assistant Stephen Child.
MH at 2017-02-04 13:30:43
Martins body language showing that he looks confident. Chelsea to get us under way x

Teams are in the tunnel.

Good afternoon and a warm welcome to the first of our live ref cam games Chelsea V Arsenal and what a game to kick off our Premier league action this weekend. Chelsea have been by far the best team this season with consistent performances throughout. While Arsenal, when you think they have a chance to make a Challenge for the title they come up with a dreadful performance in their 2-1 home defeat to Watford. This is a must win game for Arsenal with Arsen Wenger still serving a touch line ban. Today's referee is Martin Atkinson in my opinion the right choice. This is a game as a referee you have to set your tolerance levels high regarding physical challenges, you cannot be fussy you need to manage and engage with the players and smile. This is so important as well as martins accuracy in his decision making right from the start as to gain the respect of the players. He will get that opportunity to stamp his authority on the game and Martin must do thus otherwise players will take their own retribution. He will be assisted by Stuart Burt ( technical side), Stephen Child and 4th official Stuart Attwell.
