Martin Atkinson has managed this game overall in a positive and effective manner. We have mentioned the lack of consistency with his showing of the yellow cards and he choose eventually to bring out his 100th yellow card this season in the 2nd half when there had been 3 clear yellow card offences prior to this. MA`s fitness, acceleration and movement with good viewing angles achieved ensured that all KMIs were correctly judged. Teamwork was good overall and just broke down for 1 moment just before halftime, when SC missed Trippiers reckless tackle on Walker. Otherwise both AR`s judged offside well and all ball out of play decisions appeared to be correct. MM`s technique was first class all round.

Shaun Dyce has some words of advice for our 4th Official RB

AM at 2015-04-05 15:20:26

Advantage to Burnley has been an effective part of MA`s management of the game today.

AM at 2015-04-05 15:19:39

3 MINUTES ADDED TIME SHOWN BY RB

AM at 2015-04-05 15:19:18

MA is putting in an extra sprint as play quickly breaks for Burnley, good fitness levels seen today by MA.

AM at 2015-04-05 15:18:04

Offside from MM as the ball moves away from the Burnley Player and out for a Spurs goal kick. A slight delay and hold down of the flag here could have seen a goal kick awarded

AM at 2015-04-05 15:15:32

CK to Spurs with MA moving well into the Burnley penalty area to view any potential KMI judgements.

AM at 2015-04-05 15:14:03

MM retains in his in field view whilst always retaining his position in line with the 2nd rearmost defender.

AM at 2015-04-05 15:12:52

Offside Burnley from MM. MA has his arm raised directly in the air to indicate an indirect free kick to Spurs.

AM at 2015-04-05 15:11:21

Corner kick to Burnley and take as look at MAs position for the restart of play. This is described as the best viewing position for a referee from a ck.

Spurs sub 38 off 17 on.

AM at 2015-04-05 15:07:21

Paulinino offside correct from SC

AM at 2015-04-05 15:06:28

A 4th official can be called upon at any point in the game to assist the Match Officials. Your body language and focus is so important and key to be prepared to offer vital information to the referee.

AM at 2015-04-05 15:03:53

Burnley sub 9 off with 19 on

AM at 2015-04-05 15:03:11

Again CK to Burnley with MT in a good view to judge, MT showing good movement and acceleration.

AM at 2015-04-05 15:02:12

4th Official Robert Madley is stood well back from play with his arms remaining folded. Body language not the best….

AM at 2015-04-05 14:57:53

100th Yellow Cardis finally out – Trippier finally goes into the referees notebook. Ist yellow card of the game but for consistency how does this challenge compare with the 3 other challenges that I have mentioned? It is all about consistency and this is what everyone expects and wants to see.

AM at 2015-04-05 14:53:51

CK to Burnley with a good viewing angle taken up by MT

at 2015-04-05 14:52:07

Spurs sub 22 off 11 on

at 2015-04-05 14:51:49

We all talk about consistency from The Match Officials and when we view Mulumbu of West Brom being sent off yesterday for an elbow, how does the elbow challenge from Vokes today differ?

AM at 2015-04-05 14:47:01

A flag for offside from SC this could have been held down for a second or two longer as no offence had occurred. MT keeps play moving with no stoppage. Advantage to Burnley from MT. 15 Spurs on 9 Burnley. Vokes 9 of Burnley has committed an elbow reckless challenge on the Spurs player and is fortunate that there is no further action taken against him in this situation. A stoppage here would have been correct, never easy to play advantage from aerial challenges such as these.

AM at 2015-04-05 14:41:50

21 Boyd reckless on Spurs player and no further action taken from MT? HE IS SHOWING A VERY LIENIENT APPROACH TODAY.

AM at 2015-04-05 14:40:26

Even when play is moving away from MM he still retians a great pose and focus. Some switch off at this point as they feel that they have a breather….

AM at 2015-04-05 14:38:51

Appeals for handball against Mason, no penalty correct decision as the ball hit his chest with a good view from MT.

AM at 2015-04-05 14:37:25

Kane offside, flag from SC

AM at 2015-04-05 14:36:03

Walker still hobbling following Trippiers reckless tackle on him just before half time. Now he is down and I think that he will be out of the rest of this game. So it will be a Spurs Sub.

Spurs sub 2 off and 33 on.

AM at 2015-04-05 14:33:27

2nd half is underway -

AM at 2015-04-05 14:26:48

Half Time Summary –

MT has remained in control throughout to date. Good management of players seen. Just the 2 yellow cards not shown which should have been –  Benteleb and mentioned in my BLOG and the 2nd yellow card which should have been shown to Trippier 2 Burnley –  following his reckless challenge on Walker which should have been identified by SC – AR on the nearside, but for what ever reason he missed it – this can only be down to focus and concentration. A lapse in teamwork here. MT has shown good movement, reading of play and I am wondering if this 100th yellow card is playing on his mind?!! what do you think?

Half Time

0-0.

at 2015-04-05 14:20:19

2 Trippier Burnley makes a reckless tackle on Walker of Spurs and a flag from SC would have correct in this situation and also the advice of a yellow card for Trippier. Disappointing from SC and lets down the teamwork ethic. SC must have lost his concentration for this split second and maybe he was thinking of half time. Advice – YOU MUST KEEP YOUR FOCUS AND CONCENTRATION UNTIL YOU GET IN THE DRESSING ROOM. Disappointing end to a half that had seen good teamwork to this point.

at 2015-04-05 14:15:33

1 min added time and a ck to Burnley.

at 2015-04-05 14:15:04

What I like about Harry Kane, is that when he goes down in a challenge and does not get a free kick he is not shouting, arm waving and racing at the referee. An example to a lot of other players!

at 2015-04-05 14:12:19

Ball not out of play over the Burnley goal line. The AR was not on the goal line to judge, but impossible to get any closer on this occasion. In these situations you just have to accept, don’t guess.

at 2015-04-05 14:09:50

Great signal technique from MM for a throw in. Well keep a look at the technique of probably one of the top ARs. Good advantage to Spurs by MT

AM at 2015-04-05 14:04:46

Again good acceleration in pace by MT from a quick Spurs breakaway , ck to Spurs.

AM at 2015-04-05 14:02:16

As the ball goes out of play for a goal kick to Spurs, there are some half hearted appeals of holding but not a penalty for me.

Then Free kick to Burnley, spray out for the first time.

AM at 2015-04-05 14:00:26

No foul awarded to Spurs when it looked like a shove in the back on Kane, to be fair to Kane no appeals, just a look at MT.

AM at 2015-04-05 13:59:10

Spurs player offside, MM spot on in his judgement and also he is in the correct / best position to judge in line with the 2nd rearmost defender.

AM at 2015-04-05 13:57:58

SC just caught on a quick breakaway and he is having to work hard to get in the best viewing position.

AM at 2015-04-05 13:52:49

Benteleb 42 Spurs commits a further offence, late challenge and for me it is worthy of a yellow card, bearing in mind what I said after Benteleb`s earlier challenge in this game. 14th minute.

AM at 2015-04-05 13:50:03

99 OUT OF 100 Yellow CardSO FAR THIS SEASON FOR MA which player will be the 100th? will it be today?

Good effort from Chadli, did you notice MT moving wide of play to create a good viewing angle for potential KMI decision?

AM at 2015-04-05 13:44:39

42 Bentelab careless tackle, spoken to by MT. He will need to be careful now.

AM at 2015-04-05 13:43:30

Good weekend so far overall for the Match Officials let us hope that MT keeps this going today!

AM at 2015-04-05 13:42:20

Far side AR – MM has the added factor of looking from shade into the bright sunlight, always an added concentration factor.

AM at 2015-04-05 13:40:52

Good acceleration from MT in a Spurs quick breakaway. Free kick to Burnley. MT close to award.

AM at 2015-04-05 13:38:54

Good focus from SC – throw in –  easy you may think following a deflection of a Spurs players but these are never easy throw in decisions particularly when so close to your position.

AM at 2015-04-05 13:37:08

Please keep an eye on Mike Mullarkey`s movement and hold of the flag as he moves along the TA touchline his flag technique AND MOVEMENT is superb.

AM at 2015-04-05 13:35:54

Advantage to Spurs. Good ARM signal seen by MT.

AM at 2015-04-05 13:34:38

Mike Mullarkey (MM) is on the Technical Area Touchline with Stephen Child (SC) on the near touchline and he indicates an early offside against Burnley

AM at 2015-04-05 13:33:02

Early close contact to play is seen by referee MT, good early close proximity.

AM at 2015-04-05 13:30:18

The Match Referee Martin Atkinson gets the game underway.

MANAGER QUOTES

Sean Dyche: “We have total belief in how the team operate and we have always been honest with the challenge ahead of us. But we think we are a good side and we had a big win against (Manchester) City, which is fantastic for all. That builds belief in the crowd and we want to get the town buzzing again. I can never define what makes the atmosphere. Sometimes you just sense it and against City you just sensed it. The crowd were massively up for it and we’re going to need that, home and away. We need that belief and continued support because I must make it clear I’ve got great admiration for our supporters. I asked for them to be positive all season and they have been, so I’m proud of our support base and it must continue because I strongly believe it gives the players the freedom to go and play, no matter what.”

Mauricio Pochettino: “It’s been a very good week for Tottenham. The English players and others with their international teams have put in good performances. They are all fit and at a very good level, too. It’s also been a time to train very hard with the players that remained here with us and now it’s back to normal. It’s always difficult after the international break but today all the players are with us and we’re starting to prepare for the trip to Burnley. We need to make it a good performance and win the game.”

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

  • Tottenham’s solitary win in their seven most recent trips to Burnley came in the League Cup in 2004. Their last league triumph was 39 years ago.
  • Spurs have already beaten Burnley twice this season: 2-1 at home in the league and then 4-2 in an FA Cup third-round replay at White Hart Lane after trailing 2-0 inside the opening seven minutes.
  • Burnley won the only previous Premier League meeting at Turf Moor, coming from 2-0 down to win 4-2 on the final day of the 2009-10 season.

Burnley

  • The Clarets won their last home game, against Manchester City, but have only earned five points from their nine most recent league fixtures (W1, D2, L6).
  • Twelve of Burnley’s 25 points have come against clubs currently in the top 10. Crystal Palace and West Brom are the only sides in the bottom half to have a better record, with 15 points.
  • Burnley’s defensive record is the second worst in the division heading into the weekend’s fixtures, with only QPR conceding more goals.
  • Sean Dyche’s side have conceded a league-high 28 goals in the first half of matches.
  • George Boyd has run a league-high 338.8km in the Premier League this season, with Christian Eriksen of Spurs just behind on 338.2km.

Tottenham Hotspur

  • Tottenham are looking to avoid back-to-back away defeats for the first time this season.
  • They have an identical league record to last season after 30 games: 16 wins, five draws and nine defeats.
  • Mauricio Pochettino’s side have scored 26 Premier League goals in 2015, more than any other team prior to the weekend.
  • Spurs have gone seven league games without a clean sheet, the longest current such run in the Premier League, conceding 15 goals in that time. They have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 10 matches in all competitions.
  • Harry Kane has scored 11 goals in his last eight Premier League appearances. His 19 league goals this season have earned Spurs 22 points – more than any other Premier League player has won for his side.

AM at 2015-04-05 13:08:39

Welcome to this afternoon’s live REF CAM SKY game which is to be played at Turf Moor the home of Burnley in England.

TEAM NEWS

Burnley defender Stephen Ward could be involved against Tottenham after overcoming an ankle injury.

The Clarets have no fresh injury concerns and Matt Taylor, who has not featured since August, is back in training following Achilles surgery.

Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris will miss out because of the gashed knee he suffered against Leicester.

Danny Rose is nursing hamstring and hip issues, while Roberto Soldado is also a doubt with a knee injury.

MATCH PREVIEW

These two clubs have only ever met once in the Premier League at Turf Moor. Burnley won 4-2, but they were already relegated and Spurs were assured of a top-four finish under Harry Redknapp. A win for either could be pivotal in their similar battles five years on.

The margin for Tottenham error is decreasing by the week. Their defeat, and the manner of it, at Manchester United was a setback.

However, they responded positively, if not in textbook fashion, to dramatically return to winning ways against Leicester.

Quite simply they have to maintain their momentum to keep pace with the Champions League contenders.

A return of 32 points from the last 45 has given them encouragement. Five of their eight remaining games are away from White Hart Lane, which could well determine their fate.
