In summary, total control from Andre Marriner, ‘text-book’, consistent use of the yellow cards, but we doubt that he was 100% fit judging by his movement (or lack of it) as the game progressed. Nevertheless, a sound and solid refereeing performance by the referee and his team.

RCT at 2014-10-26 16:15:23

Burnley manager substitutes Boyd with the game almost over. protecting him for a 2nd yellow perhaps ?

85

RCT at 2014-10-26 16:13:43

Good night Vienna – and that is a cracker from Eto’o ….

82

RCT at 2014-10-26 16:12:02

Possibly Barnes could have received a second yellow for his challenge on Jagielka ?

80

RCT at 2014-10-26 16:08:52

10 minutes left – who out there thinks we might get a second yellow leading to a red for a Burnley player? What do you think, contact us on Twitter @youaretheref or email us at Info@you-are-the-ref.com

76

RCT at 2014-10-26 16:05:03

Although Everton are in complete control, it’s still judge a 1 goal margin, so the refereeing team need to remain vigilant

73

RCT at 2014-10-26 16:02:55

Yellow Card- card number 4 for Burnley – once again correct, this time for substitute Barnes

RCT at 2014-10-26 16:01:26

And could it be that Boyd was perhaps fortunate to escape sanction for his challenge on Barkley, What do you think, contact us on Twitter @youaretheref or email us at Info@you-are-the-ref.com

72

RCT at 2014-10-26 15:59:48

Keep going gentleman, focus, focus, focus, one incident and they will have work to do – especially with 5 players on yellow cards

68

RCT at 2014-10-26 15:56:07

The referee and his team will be on the comms kit, encouraging each other to remain focused for the final quarter of the game, which is very much under their control

63

RCT at 2014-10-26 15:53:11

Ross Barkley is not a bad substitute to have when you are in complete control of the game !!

62

RCT at 2014-10-26 15:51:27

Yellow CardYellow card number 5, this time for Ward – once again correct and fully justified

61

RCT at 2014-10-26 15:49:29

So that’s the key first 15 minute of the 2nd half successfully negotiated, with 2 key yellow cards assisting in retaining control

60

RCT at 2014-10-26 15:47:16

We sense that a 3rd goal from Burnley and it will be game over ….

57

RCT at 2014-10-26 15:45:29

I still have a concern about the lack of fluid movement from Andre Marriner – ok, any referee can be struck by the ball, but he is not showing the fluidity of Pawson, Clattenburg or Oliver

54

RCT at 2014-10-26 15:43:25

Yellow Cardgreat consistency from the referee – correct again – this time for Naismith

51

RCT at 2014-10-26 15:40:15

Yellow Card another fully justified caution, this time for Arfield of Burnley

50

RCT at 2014-10-26 15:37:18

Far-side Assistant Simon Long – so far no penal offences, no offsides – the art of Assistant Refereeing in knowing when NOT to flag – keep going Simon ……

46

RCT at 2014-10-26 15:32:57

Here we go for the second half, at every level of football minutes 45 to 60 are THE key 15 minutes of any game – the teams have had stern words from managers at half-time and the shape, pattern and tempo of the game invariably changes ….

RCT at 2014-10-26 15:26:05

Here at You Are The Ref we believe that the Referee has got that wrong by assuming that he has intentionally moved towards the goal-keeper as he clears the ball from hands – but this is not the case

RCT at 2014-10-26 15:23:52

Neil Phelps @tigerarcuk has posted a great clip on our twitter page of a ‘strange’ yellow card at Gloucester City – have a look an let us know what you think

Half-time summary – apart from McCarthy perhaps being fortunate in the 34th minute not to receive a yellow card, no complaints at all about any of the key decisions from the match officials with 2 justified cautions

44

RCT at 2014-10-26 15:14:42

During half-time, why not visit you-are-the-ref.com for some excellent articles.  Alan Biggs’s interview with former Wolves goalkeeper Matt Murray provides a great insight into the goalkeeper’s view of the job of the referee, views which have been taken forward into Matt’s new role as a Sky Sport pundit

42

RCT at 2014-10-26 15:13:39

Good concentration levels by Scott Ledger as he makes a correct offside call, having had very little involvement so far …

34

RCT at 2014-10-26 15:05:04

Mmmm – would you have issued a yellow card for that challenge by McCarthy ?

Let us know what you think – contact us on Twitter @youaretheref or email us at Info@you-are-the-ref.com.

Perhaps Burnley  could do with a strapping forward player this afternoon, and talking of robust centre-forwards, during half-time why not visit http://you-are-the-ref.com/yatr-tv/cards-on-the-table/ and view Alan Biggs’s interview with Preston North End striker Kevin Davies.  Tongue in cheek, Alan describes Kevin as an “untamed beast”, but, as we discover, “he’s not a bad bloke really”.

31

RCT at 2014-10-26 15:01:09

Yellow Card a cynical challenge by Boyd – a nailed on caution at any level, and anytime in the game

30

RCT at 2014-10-26 14:59:58

30 gone and I get the impression that Andre Marriner is not showing the usual athletic movement displayed by the PGMO referees.  He has just returned from injury and it shows – not that he has missed anything at all so far ….

28

RCT at 2014-10-26 14:58:51

A goal fest at Turf Moor this afternoon

23

RCT at 2014-10-26 14:54:57

Yellow Cardfor Lukaku, the first one of the game, wise refereeing as the temp has increased

21

RCT at 2014-10-26 14:53:05

Isn’t it amazing how the game can change in a breath – just time to start asserting authority, but to also ensure that the flow of the game is allowed to continue

19

RCT at 2014-10-26 14:50:42

Now, where did that come from – definitely game on now ….

17

RCT at 2014-10-26 14:47:43

Hah – 17 minutes and we have our first penal offence !!

13

RCT at 2014-10-26 14:43:03

So far, so good, not wishing to tempt fate ….

7

RCT at 2014-10-26 14:37:45

No penal offences so far for the referee to judge – if you have been refereeing on your local park this morning – did you go through the first 7 minutes without giving a free-kick ?

5

RCT at 2014-10-26 14:35:27

Time for the refereeing team to focus – goals can often be trigger points for an increase in temperature of the game

3

RCT at 2014-10-26 14:33:56

What a great start for Everton – game on already

RCT at 2014-10-26 14:27:05

Andre has made the relatively short journey up the M6 from his Midlands base for the game, although he and his colleagues will have assembled in a local hotel overnight to ensure best preparation for this lunchtime kick-off. Andre is assisted by Simon Long and Scott Ledger, with Michael Oliver on 4th official duties.

RCT at 2014-10-26 14:25:44

The match officials for this game are led by Andre Marriner, who, although he been operating on the Premier League since season 2004/05, has refereed just one game in the Premier League so far this season, the ‘interesting’ 8-0 Sunderland match last weekend.
