Final Summary - Darren England

RCT at 2017-05-28 17:20:17

My final summary -

Darren's personality displays that he is a calm and unflustered referee and that his style of movement maintains an untroubled and controlled mind set. He certainly upped his game as we moved into additional time. He had a number of judgements to make which were all correct and important. 1. Slocombe - Blackpool gk delaying the restart, important to show all that he was in charge and would not tolerate this. 2. Flores - Blackpool yellow card as they looked to defend their lead. 3. Daniel - Exeter handball in the Blackpool penalty area great spot and key at this or any moment of a game. These moments showed crucial concentration levels at the closing stages of such an important game. Areas for Darren to consider would be as I have commented. His movement, which at times leaves him playing catch up as balls are played wide left and into the left hand channel particularly from midfield where he is arriving  late to pick up and detect infringements. Darren has to then use his dynamic sprint to race into position for key match decision making. I would encourage more dynamic movement in his game particularly when moving into the attacking third of the field of play, as we saw him use at times in this game.

Other than that no key match errors, good judgement of careless and reckless challenges, good communication with players, he was not rushed with a very good early advantage played to Blackpool. Darren and his team have involved themselves and judged their involvement level very well particularly with both Assistants showing good judgements on their key area of offside. Both goals were close to offside but level when the ball was played so both must takereal credit here.

A very good all round team performance from the third team well done Darren and team!

83

RCT at 2017-05-28 16:48:52

Foul on Mellor in the B. penalty area correctly awarded by Darren.

FINAL 10 MINUTES

RCT at 2017-05-28 16:46:58

Key now for Darren and team is to bring this game home safely, they will be talking on the comms encouraging each other, to ensure that neither misses a thing.

79

RCT at 2017-05-28 16:45:12

No fk to E. signal right in front of Venamore always difficult to judge when so very close to your position.

76

RCT at 2017-05-28 16:41:41

B. throw in from a coaching point of view I would like to see Darren give and move into his next position he tends to stop and view the throw in rather than get to his next position of play.

75

RCT at 2017-05-28 16:39:40

E. defensive fk awarded correctly inside their own penalty area.

GOAL!

2-1 Cullen just gets a left foot on it  - Darren moving swiftly in that looked good and positive

63

Fk to Balckpool - give and go Darren, get ready for your next position rather than dwell.

Good sprint from Darren in that last Exeter attack that looks impressive more please Darren.

54

RCT at 2017-05-28 16:19:35

Further stoppage in play as Brown 39 of Exeter receives treatment.

52

RCT at 2017-05-28 16:18:22

Ck to Blackpool plenty of players in the penalty area as Darren uses voice and arm movements to prevent any infringement.

49

RCT at 2017-05-28 16:15:04

Again a very quick break from Blackpool saw Darren caught up with play rather than anticipating play leaving him a long way behind should a key decision be required.

47

RCT at 2017-05-28 16:13:23

Again a quick break from Blackpool goes wide and to be fair to both sets of players then they have displayed a commendable attitude towards each other

YATR Academy - IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO TAKE CONTROL!

Half Time Summary

RCT at 2017-05-28 16:03:46

Darren's personality displays that he is a calm and unflustered referee and that his style of movement maintains an untroubled and controlled mindset. However, as I have commented in my BLOG, this leaves him playing catch up as balls are played wide left and into the left hand channel particularly from midfield where he is arriving  late to pick up and detect infringements. Darren has to then race into position for key match decision making. If he read the game better and moved into position sooner he can still maintain his composure to make those big key match decisions. I would encourage more dynamic movement in his game particularly when moving into the attacking third of the field of play.

Other than that no significant problems so far, good judgement of careless challenges, good communication with players, not rushed with a very good early advantage played to Blackpool. Darren and his team have involved themselves and judged their involvement level well particularly with both Assistants showing good judgements on their key area of offside. Both goals were close to offside but level when the ball was played so both must take credit here.

Half Time

1-1

45+4

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:52:50

Mellor claims a fk as he goes down in a challenge no fk for me

45+3

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:51:01

Fk to B. Darren has a quiet word with players close by to confirm his judgement.

6 minutes minimum of additional time is shown by David Webb

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:48:04

44

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:47:31

FK to Blackpool - awarded from a close position.

43

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:46:48

Fk to B. Darren makes a quick movement in case of any retribution which there was not. Preventative refereeing

41

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:45:28

Again a good non offside flag from James Bell as the ball was played long and deep from the Exeter defending half then he has to make sure that he is switched on the moment the ball is play to judge offside.

40

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:43:19

GOAL!1-1

Wheeler with a great right foot flick to make it 1-1 just before half time

Good support from 4th Official David Webb

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:42:08

38

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:41:17

Stoppage in play due to injury to Jack Payne 28 as he leaves the field of play

Both Assistant Referees have supported Darren well to date

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:39:29

This could maybe down to their continued assessment, coaching and mentoring that they would receive from ex assistant referees regularly at this level.

32

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:36:48

Ck to Blackpool, again, Darren keeps very square behind play and players not creating that best viewing angle. He has the fitness and I would like to see him go wider and create those much better viewing angles.

30 - Blackpool Sub

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:33:52

Tom Aldred 15 off to be replaced by Osayi - Samuel 21

29

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:32:17

Good positioning from James Bell on the goal line to judge that the ball had not fully left the field of play

26

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:30:29

Tom Aldred of Blackpool is down injured as players take a drink and breather. Matters are well managed by Darren as Aldred leaves the field of play.

25

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:28:49

Ck to Exeter as Darren takes up the optimum view on the edge of the B. penalty area.

22

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:25:46

Again as Exeter attack particularly down the left channel I would like to see Darren create that angle and move closer to play and wide of the penalty area. Nothing missed as yet but this is key to those all important decisions

18

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:21:46

FK to Blackpool correctly awarded and the challenge is careless from the Exeter Player

17

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:20:47

Again in the last Exeter attack then Darren has delayed his movement as Exeter break towards the edge of the Blackpool defending penalty area. A movement wide with an angle would have assisted Darren here.

15

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:18:28

Darren could have shown movement in the last Exeter attack as he tended to delay and remain with play rather than consider a movement wide in anticipation of an Exeter attack

13

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:16:26

In that last Exeter attack then Darren has shown a good movement and pace to get into the best viewing position to make a judgement

9

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:13:43

Darren has shown good early reading of play and his movement / angle created has aided his decision making process

Good early support from both Assistants

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:12:40

Both Assistants have offered good early support to Darren

4

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:09:33

First fk award from Darren and good movement seen in the last Blackpool attack, going wide as the ball goes out of play for Blackpool ck

4

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:07:43

Good challenge from Mellor in the 4th min in the Blackpool penalty area. No penalty is correct

2

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:06:02

GOAL! BLACKPOOL

Good non offside flag from Lee Venamore Cullen level and from this move we have a goal from Brad Potts to make it 1-0

1

RCT at 2017-05-28 15:04:31

Good early advantage from Darren to Blackpol thought about the whistle but allowed a good advantage

Match Facts

RCT at 2017-05-28 14:42:23

Match facts

  • Blackpool have won five of their past eight matches against Exeter (D1 L2), all in league competition, and took four points from their two games against the Devon club in 2016-17.
  • This is Blackpool's seventh play-off final, more than any other team. No side has won more than the Seasiders (four, level with Crystal Palace).
  • Exeter are participating in their first Football League play-off final, becoming the 80th different side to do so since their inception in 1987.
  • In four of the past seven seasons, the side finishing seventh in League Two has won promotion - Dagenham & Redbridge in 2010, Crewe in 2012, Bradford in 2013 and AFC Wimbledon last season.
  • However, the side finishing fifth has won promotion just four times in the previous 30 seasons of the fourth-tier play-offs - Peterborough in 2000, Cheltenham in 2006, Gillingham in 2009 and Southend in 2015.

Pre Match Build Up

RCT at 2017-05-28 14:40:56

Blackpool and Exeter City meet in League Two play-off final at Wembley, with a spot in the third tier next season on offer to the winners.

What a day and the outcome for the winners a place in the First Division next season. There is no pressure quite like a playoff final at Wembley! Blackpool having played in seven playoff finals and also a play off in every division, will be looking to climb back to the First Division to then be a promotion away from returning to those heady days of playing in the Championship! Whilst Exeter City bottom of the second division back in November 2016 will be determined themselves to get into the First  Division next season. A real North v South Play Off Division Two Final. Who do you think will be the winners today?
