Summary:

Arsenal’s early goal set the tone and they controlled things in a comfortable manner.

From a Referee’s point of view Jon Moss was able to maintain quite a “low profile” as most offences were of a minor careless nature. However, the third Arsenal goal early in the second half effectively snuffed out any hope of a Stoke revival and as frustration became evident Jon was able to assert authority with yellow cards which were all fully justified. He was able to detect all the minor offences and while attempting to allow as much flow as possible, he recognised the necessity to clamp down on these offences to ensure his level of control was not to be threatened. At least today we can say that there were no key incidents that were incorrect and this was a relatively “easy” afternoon for all four officials with no obvious talking points regarding the Referee’s performance. Good on you Jon.

SM at 2015-01-11 15:30:13

Summary

The early Arsenal goal put the home team on the front foot but Stoke responded positively. However, after the second Arsenal goal the temperature of the game increased with a number of minor careless challenges as Stoke players upped their intensity. All offences have been detected by the Referee but a high concentration must be maintained by the Officials for the second half when it is expected that Stoke wlil increase intensity. Strong, positive Refereeing will be the order of the day, particularly if Stoke manage to reduce the arrears.

SM at 2015-01-11 14:27:02

We can only hope that the recent trend that seems to have become engrained into our leading officials where dealing with minor offences seem to take precedence rather than ensuring that  key incidents are recognised correctly and punished in accordance with the Laws. We shall see!
