This is a must read after the performance of Peter Kirkup today who really needs coaching and support. With a complete review of his performance today in a number of areas that I have highlighted in my BLOG.

Full time summary – This game will be remembered for the 7 key match decisions3 correct first half and 4 incorrect in the 2nd half.

Having mentioned the 3 correct key match incidents (KMIs) first half correctly judged and overall a good first half from Martin. However In the 2nd half this was in complete contrast in my view there were 4 key match decisions judged incorrectly by Martin.

1. Arsenal should have had a penalty kick following the foul on Mertesacker 76th min. 2.Ferdinand should also have seen red for his violent conduct on Giroud following the head butt by Giroud.

3.The QPR penalty kick awarded was also incorrect as Debuchy clearly won the ball in the challenge with the QPR player. Martin had a very good view of this challenge but was he too quick to award? was his mental fitness / concentration levels affected?

4. QPR should also have had a penalty kick following the foul by Gibbs on Zamora right near the end. Whilst the commentators said there were no appeals by QPR should there be?? to get the decision?? what are your thoughts should we encourage appealing by players to confirm and give an impression that decisions are correct or worth challenging to get awarded?

Mike Mullarkey gave a faultless display in Assistant Refereeing.

Peter Kirkup gave a performance below that expected at this level. 1st half

Incorrect offside judgement against QPR. Poor flag work and no yellow - first half as per my first half summary.

2nd half incorrect yellow to Hoilett, poor positioning and no support for the violent conduct by Ferdinand.

Yellow Card34 Arsenal reckless yellow card correct breaks up a promising attack for QPR. Wenger on the touchline is furious

AM at 2014-12-26 20:20:34

Yellow Card19 QPR RECKLESS CORRECT

AM at 2014-12-26 20:19:59

No penalty kick awarded to QPR as the ball is played in Gibbs fouls Zamora in the penalty area and whilst there is no QPR appeals for a penalty kick for me it should have been awarded.

AM at 2014-12-26 20:17:09

From the corner kick Arsenal hold on and clear the ball.

4 minutes of added time

AM at 2014-12-26 20:15:53

Arsenal deflection for a QPR CORNER KICK

AM at 2014-12-26 20:15:10

Arsenal sub 23 off 34 on

AM at 2014-12-26 20:14:41

Martin seems to be tiring as we enter the final minutes of this game. Has the key decisions seen in this game taken their toll on him and affected his concentration levels.

AM at 2014-12-26 20:12:09

It is really key that all match officials keep full focus and concentration because a QPR equaliser will send Arsene Wenger into a different post match summary such will his anger be at the 3 key decisions that have gone against his team in this half.

AM at 2014-12-26 20:10:00

Arsenal sub 7 off 21 on. Defensive option with Chambers now on.

AM at 2014-12-26 20:08:42

QPR penalty awarded another key incorrect decision as Debuchy won the ball cleanly. QPR score the penalty, is Martins concentration/ fitness levels lacking? as we have seen 3 incorrect key decisions in this half so far.

AM at 2014-12-26 20:05:16

Arsenal should have had a penalty foul on 4 Mertesacker by QPR 10 FER. No penalty kick awarded incorrect.

AM at 2014-12-26 20:02:50

No penalty KICK to QPR CORRECT DECISION.

AM at 2014-12-26 20:02:19

Replays have just shown that Martin Atkinson had a good view of Fredinand grabbing hold of the back of Girouds neck. Either he or Peter Kirkup should have detected this and Ferdinand should have also seen red for his act of violent conduct

AM at 2014-12-26 20:00:03

QPR Sub 25 Zamora on

AM at 2014-12-26 19:59:20

No free kick awarded to QPR when Hoilett was impeded in his progress by the touchline, not sure that Martin had the best view of this . Hoilett has then been shown the Yellow Cardcard following a flag by Peter Kirkup, replays show that Debuchy was pulling Hoilett 1st and the free kick was therefore incorrectly awarded and also the yellow card was incorrect.

THE ARSENAL GOAL TAKES A DEFLECTION OF CAULKER

AM at 2014-12-26 19:53:01

GOAL!Rosicky scores to make it 2-0

AM at 2014-12-26 19:52:29

Following Girouds red card offence Ferdinand has grabbed hold of the back of Girouds neck and should also have been red carded. This was an opportunity for Peter Kirkup to assist from a view behind the referee

AM at 2014-12-26 19:50:41

QPR SUB 3 OFF 23 ON AND 20 OFF AND 10 ON

Tactically with Arsenal down to 10 men and still only leading 1-0 QPR will be changing their shape as they pursue an equaliser.

AM at 2014-12-26 19:48:15

No penalty kick awarded to Arsenal by Martin Atkinson when at first view there seemed to be holding on the Arsenal player as he broke into the QPR penalty area and put in a cross, although the referee was in a good view to judge.

AM at 2014-12-26 19:45:42

Advantage to Arsenal worked well for the referee could have been tight but worked well for Arsenal.

AM at 2014-12-26 19:44:07

Going back to the red card Martin Atkinson was in the perfect position and immediately without hesitation showed to Giroud the red card for violent conduct.

AM at 2014-12-26 19:43:06

Arsenal offside correct judgement by Peter Kirkup –  followed by a free kick to Arsenal foul on Rosicky

AM at 2014-12-26 19:41:53

Yellow Card17 QPR Mutch reckless on Sanchez – CORRECT

AM at 2014-12-26 19:41:16

Red Card12 Arsenal Giroud correct sent off head butt on 15 Onuoha

AM at 2014-12-26 19:39:45

Ball not out of play and a free kick then awarded to QPR

AM at 2014-12-26 19:38:25

Vargas in an offside position but the ball runs through to the Arsenal GOAL KEEPER therefore no offside offence and correctly not flagged by Mike Mullarkey

AM at 2014-12-26 19:36:26

The Arsenal attacker remains forward in front of the Arsenal goal with Peter Kirkup coming back to his offside position. Better to stay in line with the attacker from a positional point of view so as to be in the best position to view any infringement - than to be yards away and out of position.

AM at 2014-12-26 19:33:12

Free kick to Arsenal, good movement in the early stages from Martin

AM at 2014-12-26 19:31:54

The Assistants check the goal nets before the start of this half. The referee blows his whistle to signal the kick off.

AM at 2014-12-26 19:30:51

Half time summary -

From 17 minutes - Martin has had 3 penalty calls to make and all decisions have been correct including the 7th minute Arsenal penalty kick. Replays show this was the correct decision.

Martin Atkinson is well in control of this game to date. Good management of the players and correct judgements made.

The Assistants have given different performances.

Mike Mullarkey has given a first class performance to date.

Peter Kirkup has assisted with a free kick but failed to give the referee further information that a YELLOW card was needed as the tackle broke up a promising move to QPR. his signal technique has been poor and he has missed a clear offside against Caulker of QPR. This is not the standard that is required at this or any level of Assisting. Peter Kirkup was also involved in an incorrect key offside judgement last weekend at Crystal Palace. See Keith Hacketts latest BLOG regarding Assistants .

Half Time

AM at 2014-12-26 19:15:31

1 minute of added time

AM at 2014-12-26 19:15:10

Defensive Free kick to Arsenal awarded from a good viewing position by the referee

AM at 2014-12-26 19:13:44

Peter Kirkup has just signalled a QPR CORNER KICK whilst still running past the corner flag, this is poor technique after I have previously commented on the excellent technique from Mullarkey.

AM at 2014-12-26 19:11:53

12 Giroud Arsenal marginally offside and correctly judged and signalled by Mike Mullarkey

AM at 2014-12-26 19:10:58

QPR Caulker not flagged offside by Peter Kirkup? He was offside when the ball was played to him so we should have seen a flag indication from Peter Kirkup.

AM at 2014-12-26 19:07:55

GOAL!17 Sanchez  – Arsenal take the lead

AM at 2014-12-26 19:06:41

Welbeck goes down in the QPR penalty area in a challenge with a QPR player, CORRECT NO PENALTY AWARDED BY THE REFEREE.

AM at 2014-12-26 19:04:30

Text book corner kick signal from Mike Mullarkey

AM at 2014-12-26 19:03:07

Let us hope that there is less whistle in this game than we saw at Manchester United in the previous game by Mike Jones!

AM at 2014-12-26 19:01:54

Assistants – Mike Mallarkey is on the Technical Area Touchline and Peter Kirkup is on the far touchline. Corner kick to QPR awarded by Mike Mallarkey

AM at 2014-12-26 18:58:59

Yellow Card5 QPR Reckless challenge correct. Spray out free kick to Arsenal. Defensive wall well managed.

AM at 2014-12-26 18:57:41

No penalty kick to Arsenal correct call, whilst there was contact on the Arsenal player, the Arsenal player has gone down too easily and no penalty kick is correct.

AM at 2014-12-26 18:55:19

Free kick awarded to QPR there was a delay in awarding this. The Assistant far side Peter Kirkup has indicated this foul challenge and Martin has then spoken to the Arsenal player. A yellow card would have been correct in this situation as the challenge was reckless.

AM at 2014-12-26 18:50:50

Corner kick to Arsenal and the score is 0-0. Arsenal had a penalty awarded in the 8th minute and I will comment on this at half time. This penalty kick was saved by Robert Green of QPR.

AM at 2014-12-26 18:48:47

Today’s referee is the experienced FIFA referee Martin Atkinson the 43 year old who became a FA Premier referee at the start of season 2004/05 and who has so far refereed 14 matches showing 57 yellow and 1 red card. He has also awarded 2 penalties to date. He is assisted by FIFA assistant Mike Mullarkey and Peter Kirkup. 4th official is Phil Dowd. We wish all match officials the best of luck today.

Good evening everyone, UNFORTUNATELY DUE TO HEAVY SNOW IN THE MIDLANDS AREA I AM CURRENTLY NOT RECEIVING MY SATELITTE SIGNAL, THEREFORE I CANNOT GIVE YOU LIVE REF CAM COMMENTARY. IF I DO RECEIVE MY SIGNAL BEFORE THE END OF THIS GAME THEN I SHALL IMMEDIATELY COMMENCE MY REF CAM BLOG. APOLOGIES FOR THIS.

This one is the Premier League fixture Arsenal v QPR. is a London Derby and is a huge game for both sides for different reasons.

Arsenal are chasing a Champions League place whilst QPR are needing to pick up points to move away from the lower reaches of the FA Premier League.

QPR are the only team in the top 4 leagues not to have claimed an away point this season and they have only scored 3 goals on the road.

Can they cause a major upset at Euro – Chasers Arsenal?
