This was a very entertaining game, you look at the referees performance and it was unfussy, he managed the players well, he allowed the play to flow, he recognized reckless challenges very well, the one blot on his copy book was the challenge by N24 on A12 in the first half. In my opinion this should of resulted in a red card and a dismissal for serious foul play endangering a players safety with excessive force. Lee didn’t get himself in the best viewing position. I felt Arsenal was very unlucky to have Welbeck’s goal ruled out after he was adjudged to have fouled Newcastle’s Janmaat, but Lee was correct in awarding Arsenal a penalty but in giving a penalty did Dummett deny Welbeck an obvious goal scoring opportunity? Sound team work by the referee and his assistants throughout the game.

Tune in tomorrow for a cracking game Manchester United V Liverpool where your referee coach will be Trevor Simpson. Kick off will be 1.30pm

Correct call by assistant Andy Halliday to award Newcastle a goal kick.

MH at 2014-12-13 20:02:02

Game has calmed down after a hectic 15 minute spell, which makes it easier for the referee.

MH at 2014-12-13 19:58:52

Substitution A9 ON A12 OFF

MH at 2014-12-13 19:57:30

To be fair Lee Mason is communicating with the players very well.

MH at 2014-12-13 19:49:07

The temperature has gone up in this game, the referee has to make sure he goes with it.

MH at 2014-12-13 19:48:08

N24 can consider himself very lucky to still be on the pitch.

MH at 2014-12-13 19:47:35

GOAL!A19, great finish

MH at 2014-12-13 19:35:40

N14 lucky to escape a yellow card after a deliberate full back on A17.

MH at 2014-12-13 19:34:45

Free kick to Arsenal, foul by N36, no foul in my opinion referee un sighted and guessed.

MH at 2014-12-13 19:31:35

Second half underway.

MH at 2014-12-13 19:28:36

Entertaining first half but as a referee yes you want to get the small decisions right but ultimately it’s about getting the big decisions right. The challenge by N24 on A17 in my opinion should of resolved in a red card. Lee Mason didn’t have the best view of this incident.

Second incident Lee Mason adjudged A23 to have fouled N22 looked minimal contact did N22 initiate contact? I don’t think there would have been any complaints if referee had given the goal.

MH at 2014-12-13 19:11:34

Foul by Newcastle on A12, first contact was on the line for me if they give a free kick it has to be a penalty. As the referee wasn’t in position it was assistant Burt who gave the decision. For me it was a coming together so should of played on.

MH at 2014-12-13 19:08:00

Yellow CardA39 for a foul on N36 deserved yellow card. Good recognition of a reckless challenge.

MH at 2014-12-13 19:04:53

Brought back memories of my playing days in goal.

MH at 2014-12-13 19:04:20

GREAT double save by Arsenal keeper.

MH at 2014-12-13 19:03:47

Good non penalty for handball on A23 not deliberate.

MH at 2014-12-13 19:02:48

Foul by A20 on N36. A20 lucky to escape a yellow card for stopping a promising attack.

MH at 2014-12-13 18:56:48

It’s important that Lee Mason keeps his concentration levels at a high.

MH at 2014-12-13 18:53:53

Foul by N26 on A12 well done assistant Burt for coming in.

MH at 2014-12-13 18:52:18

20 Minutes into the game we had 2 major talking points, the challenge by N24 on A12 and a disallowed goal for Arsenal.

MH at 2014-12-13 18:47:50

A23 goal disallowed for a foul on Newcastle defender, I have to say did not look like a foul to me.

MH at 2014-12-13 18:45:49

Good cross into the box, fine header by A12

MH at 2014-12-13 18:45:11

GOAL!Arsenal 12

MH at 2014-12-13 18:43:45

Good sprinting and making an angle for any potential incident on Arsenal attack.

MH at 2014-12-13 18:41:31

Free kick correctly awarded to Newcastle.

MH at 2014-12-13 18:39:58

So important that your concentration levels are 100% and it is important that the referee recognises these challenges

MH at 2014-12-13 18:37:46

Tiote lucky to still be on the pitch for serious foul play. Lee Mason is not in the best position to see Tiote’s boot go into Sanchez’s stomach

MH at 2014-12-13 18:35:57

Good concentration by assistant referee Stuart Burt

MH at 2014-12-13 18:30:18

Arsenal to kick off and here we go

MH at 2014-12-13 18:14:25

Looking forward to this encounter today with two teams that like to play football. With Newcastle coming to the Emirates off the back of a fantastic win last week against Chelsea, while Arsenal are looking to atone their away defeat at The Britannia.

Today’s referee is Lee Mason who joined the select group of referees in 2006. This will be his 11th game to date, showing 26 yellow cards at an average of 2.6 per game and 3 red cards. Did not fair well in his last TV game Leicester V Liverpool, let’s hope he has a good one today. He will be assisted by Stuart Burt, Andy Halliday and 4th official Neil Swarbrick. Kick off is now 15 minutes away, looking forward to your company.
