And that’s our lot.

Arsenal have run away with this one and handed out a thrashing to the Liverpool team for their ninth consecutive home win and 10 wins from their last 11. It may have been a 4-1 score line today but The Gunners were in cruise control and a three goal difference does not reflect their dominance.

As for our referees:

Good performance by Anthony Taylor who, with the exception of a couple of second half decisions, did exactly what he needed to in this type of game. Give the obvious ones, then stay out of the way for the rest and let the players shine. He also did not shirk his responsibilities when Emre Can deservedly saw a second yellow card 5 minutes from the end of the game. Well done today Tayls.

Excellent performance from Darren Cann who showed maturity and experience in reacting exactly how the game demanded. Calm, unflustered and unobtrusive officiating from the best official the PGMOL has.

Not so from Marc Perry who had one big decision to make (a clear non-offside for Raheem Sterling in the first half) but he fluffed his lines again.  He followed that up at the end of the second half with an equally poor offside decision against Danny Welbeck. Too many times this season I have this assistant referee fail to reach the minimum standards expected, and his days at this level are surely numbered.

But let us not allow one person’s performance to take away from an excellent game of football.

Open and attacking football with five goals.

A treat for all YATR followers.

Full Time

GT at 2015-04-04 14:36:27

Marc Perry does it again as he flags Welbeck offside when he is clearly NOT

GT at 2015-04-04 14:34:26

The full-time whistle cannot come quickly enough for the away side as they are well beaten by a rampant Arsenal team

GT at 2015-04-04 14:33:14

GOAL! Giroud

GT at 2015-04-04 14:32:31

That’s the end of the normal 90 minutes…4 additional minutes go on

GT at 2015-04-04 14:29:49

LIverpool are in disarray not just today, but also looking ahead to their midweek FA Cup semi-final as they go into that game with Can, Skrtel and Gerrard now all suspended.

GT at 2015-04-04 14:27:02

Emre Can sees a second yellow and therefore a red card for a poor challenge on Welbeck.

Ridiculous foul to give away.

Good decision Anthony Red Card

GT at 2015-04-04 14:25:23

Another good offside decision by Darren Cann who shows that his concentration levels are at the level you would expect from such a top performer

GT at 2015-04-04 14:22:50

Very good advantage played as Arsenal went on the attack.

Much better, referee.

GT at 2015-04-04 14:21:03

Anthony is in danger of letting his good work slip away as he finds a foul on Lucas when no-one else could see why.

Remember….no surprises, Anthony.

GT at 2015-04-04 14:19:47

The question has to be asked why Taylor did not show a second yellow card to Bellerin

GT at 2015-04-04 14:18:14

GOAL! Henderson

GT at 2015-04-04 14:17:38

Penalty to Liverpool as Sterling is clearly brought down

GT at 2015-04-04 14:15:25

Arsenal make their third and final change as Danny Welbeck  replaces Mesut Özil

GT at 2015-04-04 14:14:04

It was another good decision by Anthony as the Arsenal man stopped Sterling who was on a promising attack by bringing him to the ground

GT at 2015-04-04 14:13:07

Just 20 minutes to go and we see a caution for Héctor Bellerín (Arsenal 39)

Yellow Card

GT at 2015-04-04 14:11:35

It was a good decision by Tayls not to award a free kick but he could have sent out a good message by cautioning Ozil for that.

GT at 2015-04-04 14:09:48

Ozil lets down everyone involved in this cracker of a game by simulating a foul when there was no contact on him.

Hang your head in shame, the Arsenal man.

GT at 2015-04-04 14:06:17

Mathieu Flamini lets Joe Allen know he is in the game.

Rather surprised to see Taylor not caution that one. It was a studs-up challenge which hurt his opponent.

GT at 2015-04-04 14:04:36

An hour has gone and our officials simply need to see this one home now.

Don’t go chasing decisions which no-one expects.

Just give the obvious ones and let the game come to a conclusion.

GT at 2015-04-04 14:03:08

Mathieu Flamini replaces Ramsey as Arsenal make their second change.

GT at 2015-04-04 13:58:46

Ramsey falls to ground and appeals for a foul, but it was more in embarrassment than belief.

Well done referee for ignoring his appeal.

GT at 2015-04-04 13:56:55

What a save by Mignolet as Arsenal carve open the Liverpool defence yet again.

GT at 2015-04-04 13:54:11

Another good advantage played by Taylor.

It’s the kind of game a referee can take the odd ‘risk’ in and Anthony is choosing those opportunities wisely.

GT at 2015-04-04 13:51:30

Yellow Card Emre Can for a late challenge.

Correct decision.

GT at 2015-04-04 13:50:48

Keeping an eye on Marc Perry there as he gave a simple offside against Arsenal…

Play restarted but Perry was still static despite the back line having moved several yards. Was he daydreaming after his one good decision?

It’s one to watch…

GT at 2015-04-04 13:47:26

Sturridge comes on for the second half as Liverpool try to salvage something from this one.

GT at 2015-04-04 13:37:40

YATR followers will be as much in need of a settling drink as that Liverpool defence and, indeed, Marc Perry.

This is a treat to watch and for Anthony to referee.

He and Darren Cann are doing exactly what the game requires.

Just stay out of the way, don’t go looking for ‘clever’ decisions which nobody understands.

All you need to do to shine in games like this is give the obvious ones and let the players get on with the rest.

GT at 2015-04-04 13:34:25

Phew…this is the cracking game we believed it would be…

The only surprise of the first half is how there have not been even more goals scored.

Three excellent strikes from Héctor Bellerín, Mesut Özil and Alexis Sánchez.

Two fantastic saves by Simon Mignolet.

One appalling offside decision by Marc Perry and an over hit pass by Raheem Sterling.

What a 45 minutes that was.

It could have been 5-2 !!

GT at 2015-04-04 13:32:00

and there it is…

Half Time

GT at 2015-04-04 13:31:14

This is a thrashing by The Gunners, and the Liverpool team will be crying out for the half time whistle.

Three goals in eight minutes.

GT at 2015-04-04 13:30:19

GOAL! Sanchez

GT at 2015-04-04 13:27:16

Liverpool are defending with The Bible in one hand now!

Sliced clearance from Toure sets up a corner for the home side.

GT at 2015-04-04 13:26:21

Five minutes to go in this cracker of a game…

GT at 2015-04-04 13:25:54

Perfectly placed free kick by the Arsenal number 11.

GT at 2015-04-04 13:25:05

GOAL! and what a strike from the free kick by Ozil

GT at 2015-04-04 13:24:19

Good decision for a foul to Arsenal in a very dangerous place.

GT at 2015-04-04 13:22:44

Great finish

GT at 2015-04-04 13:22:35

GOAL! Bellerin

GT at 2015-04-04 13:19:44

Giroud remonstrates with Taylor over the slightest of contacts by Sakho…

Get on with it should be our referee’s message to him.

GT at 2015-04-04 13:17:05

Ozil is brought down by Moreno and Taylor is perfectly positioned to see it

GT at 2015-04-04 13:15:19

Another clear cut chance goes begging for Liverpool as Sterling’s cross to Henderson is over hit

GT at 2015-04-04 13:14:15

Good advantage played by Anthony in favour of Arsenal, but why didn’t he signal his decision?

GT at 2015-04-04 13:12:19

Another excellent call by Darren Cann as he helps out his referee with a throw-in call to Liverpool.

Top performer.

GT at 2015-04-04 13:10:38

Good spot by Tayls…small foul in favour of the home side.

GT at 2015-04-04 13:09:43

Advantage played by Taylor when Liverpool may well have preferred the free kick as they were 5v2

GT at 2015-04-04 13:08:22

The first quarter of the game has passed by already, and that’s a sign of how enjoyable this one is.

Where have almost 25 minutes gone?

Also, with the exception of Marc Perry, very well officiated so far.

GT at 2015-04-04 13:06:02

How on earth did Liverpool not score then?

Open goal for Sterling, but Markovic over hits an easy pass!

GT at 2015-04-04 13:04:03

What a lovely game to referee.

And Taylor is reading is superbly.

Just step out of the way, stand back and let the players play.

GT at 2015-04-04 13:02:55

Liverpool step up the pressure on the Arsenal goal….

GT at 2015-04-04 13:01:21

Cann offeres very assistance to his referee again as he correctly signals a foul in favour of Liverpool.

Excellent assistance.

GT at 2015-04-04 13:00:36

Contrast that immediately with another superb offside call from Darren Cann.

‘Chalk and Cheese’ these two assistant referees.

GT at 2015-04-04 12:59:45

Dreadful offside decision by Marc Perry.

Sterling was clean through on goal yet Perry somehow finds an offside which never existed.

I don’t wish to remind YATR followers that ‘I told you so’….but…

I told you so.

This guy is not good enough to be at this level.

GT at 2015-04-04 12:57:56

Liverpool are playing very deep and defensively today, which is inviting Arsenal on to them.

That could prove a very risky tactic against this Arsenal team.

GT at 2015-04-04 12:56:22

Taylor lets the play continue until it breaks down then gives Laurent Koscielny the public rebuke that challenge deserved.

GT at 2015-04-04 12:55:34

Good advantage played by our referee as Sterling is clattered by Laurent Koscielny

GT at 2015-04-04 12:54:15

Darren Cann shows his class as he calls a tight and unexpected offside superbly well.

What a performer this guy is.

The PGMOL and FA should be grateful for every game he takes on.

GT at 2015-04-04 12:53:07

7 minutes played and we have our first foul of the game.

Good spot referee as Giroud pulls the shirt of Markovic.

GT at 2015-04-04 12:51:32

A shot/cross comes in which strikes Henderson on the arm.

Definitely not a penalty, well done referee.

GT at 2015-04-04 12:50:25

A little of four minutes played and Toure gifts a golden opportunity to Arsenal.

He has his ‘keeper to thank for sparing his blushes.

GT at 2015-04-04 12:49:23

This is exactly the kind of game supporters love to see and referees love to be in the middle of.

Both sides wanting to play football and not kick lumps out of each other.

Two very good football teams who are full of skill and technical ability.

GT at 2015-04-04 12:46:31

Just 20 seconds in and Arsenal have the first chance of the game.

Tayls will be hoping the remaining 89 minutes carry on in that open-style of football manner

GT at 2015-04-04 12:45:23

Liverpool take the kick-off and get us underway…

GT at 2015-04-04 12:38:32

It’s almost time for kick-off at The Emirates…

GT at 2015-04-04 12:33:15

As for our referees today, Anthony Taylor leads a team which includes the peerless Darren Cann and Marc Perry. Michael Oliver makes up the team as 4th official.

The likeable Taylor was the man who set-off boss Jose Mourinho’s ‘Campaign against Chelsea’ complaints. However, the Blues’ supremo’s moans have fallen on deaf ears again as Taylor is awarded another high profile fixture this season.

Liverpool fans will be quick to point out Taylor’s poor showing in their November fixture against Chelsea when he missed a clear penalty after Gary Cahill handled the ball, Diego Costa body slamming Skrtel, the ball going out of play in the lead up to Chelsea’s winner and an inexplicable caution given to Raheem Sterling after the Reds’ starlet had been smacked in the mouth by Ramires.

Now in his fifth season as a Select Group referee, the North West based FIFA official will know it is time to kick-on and show the potential he undoubtedly has.

Anthony (or ‘Tayls’ as he is known on the list) is fast approaching a milestone as today sees him take charge of his 99th Select Group game. In that time he has issued 328 cautions and 20 dismissals.

On his lines is one man who needs no introduction.

Darren Cann remains the stand-out performer in a disastrous season for the PGMOL.

‘Canny’ still has much to offer in his performances on the field and conduct away from it.

His comrade in arms today is a surprising selection, as Marc Peery has had an unconvincing season for me, making far too many basic errors.

If I may offer Perry one piece of advice it would be to closely observe Darren and, if you can get your performance level even close to his, then you will have had a great game.

Michael Oliver is on the bench today, before his outing at Crystal Palace tomorrow.

GT at 2015-04-04 12:13:23

Hi everyone and welcome to the first of this weekend’s FIVE live Refcam commentary games.

This one sees us back in the Premier League as 3rd placed Arsenal host 5th placed Liverpool, who sit just 6 points behind The Gunners.

Arsene Wenger’s men look set to qualify for the UEFA Champions League again, which would make an incredible 18 consecutive seasons, should they remain in the top four.

However, whilst Arsenal are scoring at almost 2 goals per game, they are also leaking at an average of just over a goal each outing.

I would expect them to add to their free scoring ways today, but can they keep it tight at the back and secure all 3 points?

Especially against a Liverpool side which has turned something of a corner in recent weeks.

Just like their opponents today, The Reds also have an FA Cup semi-final to look forward to, but their minds will be focussed upon all of the points today as they too go in search of a top four finish.

This is the stand-out game of the day, and with plenty on it, we should be in for a cracker of a match between these two formidable sides.

So sit back and enjoy our YATR commentary.

Remember, if you want to add your own comments or ask any questions during the game you can contact us either on Twitter @youaretheref or email us at Info@you-are-the-ref.com
