Full time summary

AM at 2015-10-24 19:37:42

Full time summary – Excellent, entertaining and enthralling game to watch.

Lee Mason has had overall full control of this game. Players overall accepted his decisions and there was just the Deulofeu 1st half act of simulation which was not detected as a yellow card and this should have resulted in a yellow card for him. Coquelin was unlucky in his yellow card as we discussed at half time, but overall Gareth Barry can have no complaints for his 2 yellow card offences which resulted in a red card right near the end of this pulsating game.

Several good advantages were given with foul detection overall being good. I have mentioned fitness and movement and whilst fitness levels looked acceptable I would like to see Lee move that bit wider to create and improve viewing angles particularly as play moves towards and enter the penalty areas. That said Lee missed little and teamwork with his Assistants was good overall.

Simon Beck –  supported to LM well and correctly signalled for free kicks when better placed to assist LM.

Andy Garratt  showed a good position and movement along the touchline with a good signal technique seen. Just the one missed offside 86th minute and down to concentration as Sanchez was offside when the ball was played to him, fortunately a goal was not the outcome otherwise that decision would have been reviewed over and over again. You sometimes need luck in this game and Andy had it here.

No offside flag from AG correct as the ball was last played by an E. player back towards an A. player

81

AM at 2015-10-24 19:10:56

Would like to see LM MOVE WIDER AND CREATE A BETTER VIEWING ANGLE AS PLAY ENTERS THE PENALTY AREAS.

That should have been an A. ck missed by both AG and LM

78

AM at 2015-10-24 19:08:51

Great effort from E. goes just over the bar.

A. sub 15 off 20 on   – LM awareness here to keep Chamberlain moving to the touchline so that the substitution can take place asap

76

AM at 2015-10-24 19:06:50

Free kick to E. looked correct although Galloway has got over involved.

Free kick to E. good supportive flag signal from SB although Deulofeu argues with SB and again is fortunate not to receive a yellow card for this act of dissent in wanting Monreal cautioned.

72

AM at 2015-10-24 19:00:49

LM dancing in front of  the ball and players as he has no where to move to and gets caught up in play with his narrow patrol path

71

AM at 2015-10-24 18:59:34

E. advantage close to SB who has to avoid the player movement along the touchline

70

61

AM at 2015-10-24 18:50:20

Deulofeu 19 of E. is increasing the wrath of the A. fans with another slump to the ground in the A. penalty area. No pen correct

59

AM at 2015-10-24 18:48:18

Free kick to A. following a shove by Barkley on Coquelin who has a wry smile at LM!

57

AM at 2015-10-24 18:46:34

Half time summary

AM at 2015-10-24 18:29:00

Match Officials Summary –

Lee Mason has so far got all the key and important decisions correct – I mentioned in my blog that I felt that the 1st  and only yellow card of the game was harsh and could have been managed (Coquelin 34) maybe LM had flashbacks to that game at Crystal Palace on Sunday 16th August 2015 when Coquelin should have been sent off.

Deulofue 19 E.was very lucky not to receive a yellow for his act of simulation and maybe LM did not have the best to execute the yellow but he was certainly correct not to award the E. free kick. This maybe a case for post match VIDEO review.

LM`s movement and positioning is fairly narrow and straight up and down – but to be fair he has missed little so far and he has a sapping 2nd half to come.

Both Assistants have judged offside very well with no offside flags at either end, good movement from both and positioning seen.

Anthony Taylor is getting very wet and will need to be prepared in case he called upon to referee!

45+ 2 Half Time

AM at 2015-10-24 18:19:04

Half Time

2-1

45

AM at 2015-10-24 18:18:28

No E. fk following a dramatic fall from Deulofeu 19 of E. who can count himself lucky to not to have received a yellow card for this act of simulation.

44

Sanchez CARELESS and he has a calming word from LM

43

GOAL!

2-1 – GOOD TIME TO SCORE FROM ROSS BARKLEY FROM A DEFLECTION

37

AM at 2015-10-24 18:09:05

GOAL!

2-0

36

AM at 2015-10-24 18:08:10

A. free kick LM correct to award little advantage here and A. would probably prefer a free kick as well!

35

AM at 2015-10-24 18:06:43

GOAL!  That man Giroud again

1-0

34

AM at 2015-10-24 18:05:33

No E. fk looked correct and a low hand polish movement from LM to indicate no free kick – good communication seen here

33

AM at 2015-10-24 18:04:12

From that last A. break LM has nearly got caught with the ball, if he moved wider sooner then he would have avoided player space

32

AM at 2015-10-24 18:02:57

A. fk spray out for the first time in this game.

31

AM at 2015-10-24 18:02:01

Andy Garratt is keeping a good line in line with the 2nd rearmost defender. Good in field movement and he is always holding the flag in the active hand.

29

AM at 2015-10-24 18:00:13

Free kick to A. correct from a defensive position

27

AM at 2015-10-24 17:59:18

Again we mentioned about the weather conditions making the playing surface somewhat more difficult for the players and there will be understandable errors. Match Officials need to be aware of this.

24

AM at 2015-10-24 17:56:48

Yellow Card34 Coquelin – interestingly Lee Mason did not send him off at Crystal Palace as per my pre match notes and he becomes harshly in my opinion the 1st player to be shown the yellow card!

21

AM at 2015-10-24 17:52:53

CK to A. again Gabriel 5 of A. and Barry 18 of E. pulling and pushing each other, not detected at all

18 - Heavy Rain

AM at 2015-10-24 17:51:01

Weather conditions are a key factor in any game and the rain is falling heavily tonight to make the surface very quick and also this will need to be a consideration for challenges

16

AM at 2015-10-24 17:48:47

LM is running a very narrow diagonal and is having to take evasive action to avoid getting caught up with the ball in player space

13

AM at 2015-10-24 17:45:20

Free kick to E. and from that quick A. breakaway Giroud commits a foul and it is a free kick to E.

11

AM at 2015-10-24 17:43:32

LM going extremely wide and off the field of play in that last movement in front of the TA`s will leave a lot of work to do for a quick cross field break

9

AM at 2015-10-24 17:41:56

Keep an eye out for Gabriel 5 of A. at their ck`s he is clearly holding and pushing but LM`s position at these ck`s is not allowing him to detect this?

8

AM at 2015-10-24 17:39:21

A. fk – LM ensuring ball is in the correct spot before allowing the free kick

7

AM at 2015-10-24 17:38:26

A. ck – LM will need to keep an eye out for grappling/holding offences in the penalty area

5

AM at 2015-10-24 17:37:18

Throw in to E. ball hits the corner flag and goes out for a throw in, good early concentration from Andy Garratt on the far touchline

3

AM at 2015-10-24 17:35:03

Early indications are that Lee Mason is going to adopt a fairly narrow patrol, movement seems to be very much behind play. Let us hope this does not catch him out tonight in a game full of pace and acceleration

1

AM at 2015-10-24 17:31:54

AR Simon Beck (SB) is on the Technical Area Touchline

Pre match Handshakes

AM at 2015-10-24 17:27:52

All 3 Teams are all ready for the pre match handshakes

Lee Mason

AM at 2015-10-24 17:24:50

Tonight`s referee is Lee Mason who is refereeing his 4th game in the FA Premier League this evening. Lee has been absent from a number of Premier League games this season due to his below par refereeing performance in the Crystal Palace v Arsenal game which was played on Sunday 16th August and Lee then suffered a 6 week FA Premier League absence before returning on 26th September 2015 for the Stoke 2 Bournemouth 1 game. Interestingly it is Arsenal tonight where Lee returns to referee. 9 yellow cards to date and no red cards in The Premier League this season.

Tonight`s Match Officials

AM at 2015-10-24 17:19:22

The Match Officials selected by the PGMOL Management Team for this evening`s game are as follows:

Referee: Lee Mason (LM)

AR1: Simon Beck (SB)

AR2: Andy Garratt (AG)

4th Official: Anthony Taylor (AT)

Some interesting points to note from this 3rd team selection tonight is that Simon Beck moves from Mark Clattenburg`s team to join Lee Mason tonight. Also, Anthony Taylor is on 4th Official duties tonight and he has no referee appointment in The Premier League this weekend?

Good Evening

AM at 2015-10-24 17:12:09

A very good evening and welcome to this live REF CAM Commentary game. The game is being played at The Emirates Stadium in London. Which sees Arsenal fresh from their magnificent 2-0 Champions League win against the German Champions Bayern Munich on Tuesday Night.

Arsenal take on Everton in 9th place and an Arsenal win would see them top the Premier League table.

Last season Arsenal won 2-0 could this be repeated tonight?

Feel free to interact with me during the game by joining in on Twitter @youaretheref or e-mail at info@you-are-the-ref.com
