Remember to tune in tomorrow where we have West Ham V Manchester United also don't miss our ref show with Alan Biggs, Roger Dilkes and Brian Deane talking about all the weekends controversial incidents and one I am sure will be discussed is the disallowed Manchester United goal by referee Lee Mason. How that was disallowed I still don't know. Hope you all have a great new year and enjoy the rest of your night.

While everybody will be talking about Giroud's wonder strike I want to talk about Andre's performance. While this wasn't a difficult game to control because of the player's exemplary behaviour as i have said before you can only referee what is i front of you. The conditions were difficult for the referee because of the heavy rain throughout the game. You have to judge your involvement because of the conditions, your recognition of careless and reckless challenges have to be of a high standard and your tolerance has to be a little bit different because of these wet conditions. His judgement in this game was first class, he stayed out of the game and came in when needed to. He wasn't fussy with physical challenges, he managed the players well with a smile gaining the respect of the players, but what impressed me most of all was showing that he was fully focused and his concentration levels were where they should have been with the two cautions in the last 8 minutes of this game A18 and CP5 . He was well assisted by his two assistants. Well done to all a good day at the office.

Good save by Palace keeper Arsenal still trying to get a third in this late stage.

MH at 2017-01-01 18:47:07
A minimum of 3 minutes added time.

MH at 2017-01-01 18:46:21
Yellow CardCP5 Clear caution for a reckless challenge.

MH at 2017-01-01 18:42:57
Well done Andre.

MH at 2017-01-01 18:42:01
Yellow CardA18, clear yellow card, stopping a promising attack. Andre clearly showing he hasn't lost his focus as this is the first caution of the game and it has come in the 83rd minute and it could have been quite easy to turn a blind eye as the player's behaviour has been exemplary.

MH at 2017-01-01 18:37:23
I noticed Andre doesn't penetrate into the penalty area like some match officials do, I think this is good practice as you can become to close to an incident that happens in the area and you call it wrong.

MH at 2017-01-01 18:34:23
Substitution for A. A17 OFF, A15 ON. Substitution for CP, CP17 OFF, CP9 ON.

MH at 2017-01-01 18:33:25
Free kick  given to Arsenal after a foul by CP4 who showed his displeasure. Well managed by Andre no need to caution for dissent.

MH at 2017-01-01 18:28:45
Double substitution for A. A35 OFF, A34 ON, A9 OFF, A8 ON.

MH at 2017-01-01 18:27:32
Substitution for CP. CP10 OFF, CP14 ON.

MH at 2017-01-01 18:26:34
First decision Andre has got wrong it should have been a corner to Arsenal. Andre must have told Giroud what a brilliant goal he had scored earlier as there were smiles between the two.

MH at 2017-01-01 18:23:26
Substitution for CP. CP7 OFF, CP22 ON.

MH at 2017-01-01 18:22:51
For those of you who have noticed that Simon Beck is no longer wearing a FIFA badge, I understand that he has resigned his position. If this is true I find this astonishing as myself being on the International panel there is no better honour than representing your country on the International list of officials. Remember Simon Beck officiated as an assistant with Mark Clattenburg in last seasons Champions League final and Euro final.

MH at 2017-01-01 18:18:18
The Arsenal keeper kept very busy the last few minutes with three good saves. It not only applies to referees it applies to players as well as you cannot afford to take your foot of the gas as we have just seen.

MH at 2017-01-01 18:16:08
Good to see Andre managing the players by talking to them just before the taking of the corner.

MH at 2017-01-01 18:13:33
Foul given to A7 correctly given.

MH at 2017-01-01 18:13:04
GOAL!A17. It was always coming just a matter of time.

MH at 2017-01-01 18:12:20
As the rain is still pouring down at The Emirates it's pleasing to see Andre letting the game breath, letting it flow, only getting involved when he has to get involved and not being fussy in physical challenges. There's an old saying in refereeing don't go looking for trouble because trouble will find you.

MH at 2017-01-01 18:07:56
Free kick to CP.

MH at 2017-01-01 18:05:41
Arsenal had a chance just before half time and have just had another chance now. These missed chances may come back to haunt therm.

MH at 2017-01-01 18:02:33
I wonder if Andre was saying to Giroud what a great goal.

MH at 2017-01-01 18:01:16
Arsenal to get the second half underway. Although the referee has had nothing to preside over in the first half, as i said earlier it is important that the referee and his assistants keep fully focused as if they are not and they miss a major decision that is when the game goes up in the air. So you must be ready for when it happens.

MH at 2017-01-01 17:51:25
Not a difficult first half for the referee, nothing to talk about regarding the referee's performance, everyone will be talking about that wonder goal by Giroud. Just how the match official's want it. Enjoy your half time brew.

Half Time

MH at 2017-01-01 17:46:54
CP11 goes to ground again, no free given. Perhaps his reputation goes before him.

MH at 2017-01-01 17:45:54
A minimum of 1 minute added time

MH at 2017-01-01 17:42:43
CP finally get a free kick, correctly given.

MH at 2017-01-01 17:40:01
Andre has got to remain calm and focused and remain mentally strong as CP feel aggrieved that they have not received a coupled of free kicks they thought they should have had.

MH at 2017-01-01 17:34:45
CP11 goes to ground asking for a foul, in my opinion the referee was correct to give nothing.

MH at 2017-01-01 17:32:41
Off side correctly given by Simon Beck.

MH at 2017-01-01 17:29:10
Foul given against CP42, tells Andre he disagrees with him and there's nothing wrong with that as you need that dialogue with the players. As long as the players don't go over the top.

MH at 2017-01-01 17:26:23
Off side given by Scott Ledger.

MH at 2017-01-01 17:25:52
The intensity of the game has slowed down that will suit CP.

MH at 2017-01-01 17:24:15
Although Andre looks very laboured in his movement and keeping a central path of control, he is reading the game well and anticipating play well. Thus giving him decent viewing angles.

MH at 2017-01-01 17:21:47
CP living dangerously, there's more goals in this game.

MH at 2017-01-01 17:20:22
20 minutes gone the players are making it easy for the referee, that's just how the referee likes it.

MH at 2017-01-01 17:19:21
That's what fans pay their money for to see goals like that.

MH at 2017-01-01 17:18:39
One of the goals of the season.

MH at 2017-01-01 17:17:34
GOAL!A12 WHAT A GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MH at 2017-01-01 17:15:36
Good to see Andre talking to A9 with a smile on his face after a foul challenge given against him.

MH at 2017-01-01 17:12:16
Another chance just gone wide for Arsenal, don't think it will be long before we get a goal.

MH at 2017-01-01 17:10:42
As a referee it's very important to get these small decisions correct in the early stages of the game as it leads to the players trusting the referee in his decision making.

MH at 2017-01-01 17:09:10
Correct decision to award a free kick to A18.

MH at 2017-01-01 17:08:34
CP11 quite rightly feels he should have had a free kick after a foul.

MH at 2017-01-01 17:06:42
Arsenal have started very brightly and should have made it one nil.

MH at 2017-01-01 17:03:50
As its been raining very hard in London it will make it difficult for the referee to judge careless and reckless challenges with the surface being wet and slippery. His concentration levels will have to be very high.

MH at 2017-01-01 17:00:08
Crystal Palace to get us underway.

MH at 2017-01-01 16:56:31
The teams are in the tunnel.

MH at 2017-01-01 16:56:07
Good afternoon to you all, firstly i would like to wish you all a very happy 2017 and hope you are not suffering to much from your new year's celebrations. We should be in for a pulsating London derby between Arsenal and Crystal Palace. Arsenal will be looking to leap frog both Tottenham and Manchester City into third place, while Palace under their new manager Sam Allardyce will be looking to build on their one one draw with Watford. With Palace fourth from bottom they really need the three points and knowing big Sam i am sure he will set his team up with trying to keep a clean sheet. Today's referee is Andre Marriner, who is one of the trusted referees by the PGMOL who can referee any game. He will need to keep a tight grip on this feisty affair and stamp his authority on the game when he gets the chance and he will. He will be assisted by Simon Beck (technical area), Scott Ledger and fourth official Stuart Attwell. Good luck to the team.
