Full time summary

AM at 2015-10-20 21:57:05

Key decisions –

43rd minute – handball no penalty awarded to BM – replays confirm that a penalty kick should have been awarded. Could technology been used here even when the referee judges no penalty kick? replays confirm that it should have been? one for others to discuss in more detail.

77th minute – Arsenal goal scored by Giroud should this have been handball? well if we look at Law 12 it mentions (offence = handles the ball deliberately – Question – did Giroud deliberately handle the ball deliberately? well in my opinion he did not as the ball has seemed to come off his head first and then onto his arm and then into the goal – this for me was not a deliberate action.

90+3 – Arsenal goal fantastic work right at the end by the AAR – Huseyin Gocek who in the final moments has kept his full concentration to judge that the ball has fully crossed over the goal line and he has awarded the goal. Very well done here.

Cuneyt Cakir has overall managed this game effectively just one yellow card issued to Giroud and for me he had the respect of all the players on view tonight. They all trusted his decisions and he was always there or there a bouts to make his judgements. He had a quiet low profile and I think this game tonight suited his personality. His physical condition looked very good and coupled right to the end with his quick breakaways and movement.

As for both Assistants then TO on the far touchline has some areas to think about  and consider as I have discussed in my BLOG with you.

BD on the near touchline has supported the referee well, low key but fully in tune with the referee.

Top drawer decision from Huseyin Gocek AAR to award an Arsenal goal how UEFA will be delighted with this decision in view of clamours for goal line technology.

Giroud – super sub from Arsene Wenger – should it have been disallowed though for handball? what are your thoughts?? What did the AAR behind the goal see he would have had the best view though to judge

Throw in to BM good signal seen from BD as Cech again cancels out another BM cracker. Free kick to A. CC wants the defensive wall back well done here..

72

TO quickly raised his flag for a throw in to A. and THEN SIGNALS THE DIRECTION.

Could we have used technology for the penalty incident in the 43 minute? CC saw it and said no could this then be challenged by say a Manager challenge?

From that last challenge CC keeps his gaze and lets players know that he is watching, again good focus and concentration

57

AM at 2015-10-20 21:00:15

CC awards an A. fk and has a word with Alonso good refereeing here as he manages the careless tackle and quickly moves on with play

55

AM at 2015-10-20 20:58:15

CC stops play good player empathy seen here Ramsey 16 injured.

A. sub 16 off 15 on.

53

AM at 2015-10-20 20:56:48

CK to BM good detection off an A. Player. BM taking their time on taking the CK. An area for CC to be aware of.

51

AM at 2015-10-20 20:54:40

A. offside no replay here and I have to question if this was correct?

TO. on the far touchline – do you see how you question decisions when you view an Assistants performance which is not Champions League Standard or even at a Lower Level.

Assistant Positioning

AM at 2015-10-20 20:51:02

TO on the far touchline is not in line with the 2nd rearmost defender. Keep an eye on this and learn to improve your own AR performance. Advice – always keep in line with the 2nd rearmost defender.

Bayern to kick off the 2nd half

AM at 2015-10-20 20:47:50

We are underway

What are your thoughts of the non award of a penalty kick to Bayern 43 min?

Half Time Summary

AM at 2015-10-20 20:43:51

Cuneyt Cakir has certainly correctly applied law and for me his management of players has been a key feature of his skill set. He has displayed a quiet personality so far and how well this has worked for him. Link this to your appearance in a game and how you present yourself as a referee?

Penalty kick not awarded to BM 43 minute – replays for the first time have just shown that Sanchez has handled and that this should have been a penalty kick to BM.

Physical Condition has clearly been a strength in a game were we have seen high player fitness levels and fast ball movement.

Positioning and movement has seen CC close to play at times very close, but he has missed little.

Tarik Ongun On the far touchline – we have discussed his body language and also positioning these are areas to learn from tonight.

Bahattin Duran nearside has put in a good performance in the first half.

Half time 0-0

AM at 2015-10-20 20:32:39

Half Time

No added time at all, not often we see that these days and not required.

43

AM at 2015-10-20 20:30:21

Half hearted penalty appeals from BM players. CC waves his hand in the air to communicate NO to all

41

AM at 2015-10-20 20:29:10

TO on the far touchline is not displaying the best body language. He is side on a lot of the time and his flag needs to be in the hand nearest to the touchline as he moves along

38

AM at 2015-10-20 20:27:01

Quick player and ball movement as we just saw in the last A. breakaway make it at times very difficult for any referee to keep up with play. Experience and judgement have to come into play in these situations.

35

AM at 2015-10-20 20:22:44

Key player movement in the BM penalty area so important to get in the best position to judge, although you do have the benefit of AAR`s on the goal line as an added pair of eyes.

34

AM at 2015-10-20 20:21:03

A. offside no replay seen but BD was well placed to judge

33

AM at 2015-10-20 20:20:08

Great save from Neuer have you seen better?

32

AM at 2015-10-20 20:19:05

TO not sure whether gk or ck so he is right to hold his flag and wait for the referee to lead. When you are not sure on the line then don’t guess.

31

AM at 2015-10-20 20:17:54

FK to A. defensive third right to give, no real advantage seen and safe to award.

29

AM at 2015-10-20 20:16:41

CK to A. correct signal from BD on the near touch line. Good timing here

25

AM at 2015-10-20 20:15:20

Free kick to BM The referee thought about advantage but there was not, so fully correct to stop play.

Play stopped as a BM player down on the ground. Dropped ball then given to A. who then attack! not sure that this is in the spirit of the game, what if a goal comes from this? players will then go back to the drop ball. Why not have a contested drop ball on the half way line. Why risk your control?

23

AM at 2015-10-20 20:11:14

Again advantage to BM signalled by CC, play is quickly then brought back as no advantage has occurred, the referee has done well here.

21

AM at 2015-10-20 20:08:13

Advantage to BM good signal from CC results in a clear advantage for BM

20

AM at 2015-10-20 20:06:59

Free kick to A. Good support from BD here, who would have supported CC

Goal Line Technology

AM at 2015-10-20 20:05:54

The Additional AARs on the goal line look much more focussed these days. What are your thoughts regarding technology should it replace these AARs?

15

AM at 2015-10-20 20:02:55

Keep an eye on the far side AR Tarik Ongun (TO) who is running along the touchline some way behind the line. This is not considered good practice as he cannot be in the best position to judge ball out of play situations.

13

AM at 2015-10-20 20:00:49

FK to BM given from a close position by CC who is looking calm and composed early on. A key attribute of any referee.

13

AM at 2015-10-20 19:59:37

Good spot by CC deflection from an A player – results in a ck to BM

12

AM at 2015-10-20 19:58:40

Again CC has to take avoidance of the ball as he evades player space

9

AM at 2015-10-20 19:57:37

Good non OFFSIDE flag from Tarik Ongun (TO) as the ball travels over the Bayern player`s head and not active

8

AM at 2015-10-20 19:55:25

Our Referee is pacing himself well, just got a bit close to play there as he moved away from play to avoid the ball, but so far keeping a low profile in his reading of play and letting the game flow

6

AM at 2015-10-20 19:53:39

Great save by Neuer ck to Arsenal

5

AM at 2015-10-20 19:53:05

Bayern fans have just entered the stadium in protest at the cost of tickets £64 for this game they usually pay £15!

Bellerin –  Arsenal offside correct decision by Bahattin Duran (BD) nearside touchline

1

AM at 2015-10-20 19:48:42

Early possible back pass to gk by Arsenal not given by CC?

Kick off

CC blows his whistle for an Arsenal kick off

Pre Match Handshakes

AM at 2015-10-20 19:46:25

As both teams line up for the pre match customary handshakes, can the Arsenal get the much needed win. Really good to see both teams standing out against Racism.
