    As a referee you’ve got to be careful with holding offences, that was what Mike Dean thought he saw when he gave Arsenal a free-kick in the build-up to their first goal during their 2-0 win over Spurs. Or maybe he’s guessed, whatever the situation, he’s got it wrong.

    At first glance, a lot of us thought he’d blown for a late challenge, and most of us thought ‘that’s a bit harsh, it’s a great tackle’, and it was. Mike, as I’ve said, doesn’t give the foul for that. He thinks he seen something and he’s given it, it happens to the best of us.

    But the fact of the matter is that it wasn’t a foul challenge, nor was it a holding offence and his uncertainty has ended up resulting in a key match error, with Mustafi scoring from the resulting set-piece.
