The pace of the game, speed of impact, recent changes and modifications to Laws mean that all match officials are needed to deliver a game of football.

So how do you as the AR prepare yourself to play your part in the success of the match day team?

Firstly, I would suggest that you remove your AR label and think of yourself as a referee. The only difference is you are holding a flag and you have a leader, the referee, who will guide your team.

When you receive your appointment, do you think of the rest of the team? Where do they live? Have I worked with these guys before? Shall I send a quick message or email to let the referee know I have received the game and I am available to discuss arrangements……
