Over the coming months it is the intention of You Are The Ref to take a closer look at some of the up and coming referees who may just make that step up to the Premier League.
First of all, I’d like to highlight David Coote, a referee that I’ve long admired and who continues to display excellent potential.
Let’s take a look at David’s career to date:
He started refereeing aged 16 and earned his stripes officiating in the Notts Alliance Leage, the Northern Counties East Football League and the Northern Premier League.
Gaining experience and demonstrating his referee credentials, Coote was promoted to the Football League list of assistant referees.
His first game was at Stockport County running the line.
In 2010, after producing some excellent performances, he was promoted onto the Football League referees list where he has since remained.
In May 2014 I watched David officiate the League 1 Play-Off Final, where he produced an excellent performance in a well-attended match at Wembley.
Just the other day he took charge of Chelsea v Fiorontina, once again producing a very mature performance. It was all about reading the game well, good movement around the field and top class decision making.
The team at You Are The Ref send David Coote our best wishes and look forward to taking a closer look at one of his performances during the coming season.
