The aim of this bespoke section of YATR is to provide match officials from all levels of the game with information on how best to maximise their fitness levels. While it is the ability to make the correct decision that truly defines the performance of soccer officials, correct decision-making is closely linked to an officials’ physical fitness. For example, a good level of physical fitness helps to offset mental tiredness, enables officials to better keep up with play at all times and also permits a better quality of fitness training. Therefore, the scope of the Fitness for Soccer Officiating section is to provide match officials with advice and information that will help them to maximise their physical fitness. This guidance will be provided via recommended fitness training sessions and training programmes, regular question and answer sessions and educational articles that breakdown relevant and contemporary sports science research into practical and usable training advice for all match officials.
